Optimist Common Terms and Definitions....
Childhood Cancer Campaign
CCC is a program started in 2001 to build awareness of the disease that kills more children than any other. Members provide support for children with cancer and their families, and support research to find a cure. The Rochester Optimist Club supports research by hosting the Optimist Frozen Goose Relay annually.

Optimist Frozen Goose Relay
A WinterFest event held at Eastwood Golf Course. The relay consists of a 5k run, 5k cross country ski, and a 3k shoe show. The participants are asked to seek and collect pledges; the proceeds are donated to a Mayo childhood cancer lab.

DMM District - Dakotas, Minnesota, and Manitoba
One of 53 Optimist International districts. The Rochester Optimist Club is a member of this district.

Optimist International

Junior Optimist Octagon International JOOI
A junior optimist club that helps our youth learn skills such as citizenship, teamwork, communications, self-esteem, and leadership. Rochester has a JOOI club at Century High School.

Hunter Safety Program
One of the longest running programs supported by the Rochester Optimist Club. We offer support through the purchase of materials, working during registration week, and helping on field day. Be sure to talk to Graham Luck about participation.

Optimist International Junior Golf Championship - OIJGC
Each year thousands of young people compete in local and district qualifying tournaments. The top finishers advance to the OIJGC. Past Optimist junior golf participants include Tiger Woods, Michelle McGann, Phil Mickelson and Justin Leonard. Dick Grassley is the person to talk to in the Rochester club.

Fiscal Year
Our year begins October 1 and ends September 30.

District Governor
The highest ranking officer in the district. Elected each year to a one year term.

Lt Governor
The district is divided into zones. Every zone has a Lt. Governor to support the clubs in their zone. We are in Zone 1 and Lyle Felsch, of our club, is the Lt. Governor.

Although we are involved in a number of activities, we also take time to have fun. Throughout the year, members of the club enjoy getting together for monthly happy hours and other social gatherings.
